Air exposure is one of the biggest threats to flavored syrups. Once a bottle is opened, oxygen can trigger chemical reactions that alter the syrup’s taste and aroma. A study from the Journal of Food Engineering (2020) found that oxidation significantly reduces sensory quality, especially in syrups made with natural flavors.
Always ensure the bottle cap is securely closed, and avoid leaving it open for extended periods during use.
